“People say we don’t choose adolescent medicine, it chooses us. That captures my situation perfectly. Forty years ago, I had such a powerful experience with one patient whose life I changed and who changed me that it was impossible for me to go into any other field. Since then, my love for my patients has only grown. I have learned so much from them over the years that at this point, the angrier and more confused patients are when I first see them, the more interested I am in helping them work through their problems. It is such a pleasure to work here (Seattle Children’s Hospital), where we have a whole interdisciplinary team to help patients and to help each other.” HENRY S. BERMAN, MD
